Global Diabetes Walk in Mombasa, Kenya.
+300,000 walked!
The Global Diabetes Walk 2009 is over and all registered walks and participants counted. 305,479 participants from 52 countries set another record and collectively raised attention to diabetes as an important public health concern. We hereby extend our gratitude to all and every single one who made an effort and stepped up for diabetes on World Diabetes Day 14 November 2009.
One may ask what makes more than a quarter million people take to the streets, walking or running, singing or dancing, holding printed or hand-written banners about diabetes and health. Our conclusion to this question is simple: involvement. Yet another year, we have seen people getting involved because they are concerned about their own health and the health of those around them. The Global Diabetes Walk is their joint way of showing concern and making a good example of physical activity at the same time.
